Giving up the best things for good things
Luke 10: 41-42
41“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
In this passage of scripture, Jesus has come to Mary and Martha’s home for a visit. Martha is so excited that she is busy fixing a meal. Of course if God is in your home you are going to make sure everything is perfect. The food has to be the absolute best. However, in this story Martha’s sister Mary is not helping to prepare the meal. As a matter of fact, Mary is sitting at the feet of Jesus as if nothing else matters.
Martha was distracted
Mary was focused
Both were doing good things but Mary was focused on the most important thing.
This is a great lesson for us as we look forward to 2010
Ephesians 5: 16-17
15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
God wants to spend time in your living room!
