The Only Evangelism That Works: Be An Imagebearer

Great Resource: NIV Application Commentary

I love to learn and when I do I like to share what I have learned. I have learned that the NIV Application Commentary is one of the best and one that I turn to often in my study of the Bible. I am big on bringing into Bible teaching what it means for my life now.

The NIV Application Commentary helps to do this.

“From biblical text…to contemporary life

If you have the money to spend on such a resource the entire New Testament series can be purchased for about $300.00. If you don’t have that much to spend, you can purchase individual volumes (that is how I have to do it) at a very reasonable price from places like amazon and Christianbook.com

Outstanding Resource

here comes the judge…

I never cease to be amazed at my understanding of scripture, or the lack thereof. I hope you will come and discover the scripture afresh and anew with me at SNL. So many times we preach and teach what we have heard all our lives and it is just simply wrong.

Would you want to know if you were wrong about your understanding of scripture?

Ronnie

I originally planned to preach on verses 1 – 6 and then I realized that you cannot separate verses 1-12. Come and see what God is doing in Carroll County and the hearts and lives of individuals.

Matthew 7: 1-12 (NIV)

1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

9“Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

hypocrisy

Matthew 7:5 (NIV)

You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Hypocrisy

hypocrisy means to perform external acts of righteous that mask, perhaps even from oneself, of ones own inner corruption.

During Jesus ministry on earth, many people attached themselves to him but never truly believed in him.

John 6: 60-66

60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit[a] and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”

66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

When you read this, don’t think about all the people you know and believe they truly don’t believe Jesus but think of yourself. Do you truly believe. What is your attitude toward others when they are found in sin? Do you offer them the same grace that has been offered to you?

Think about these things.
