Bold Prayers are Goals with Deadlines – Running at age 95

Mark Batterson says that Bold Prayers are Goals with Deadlines. In other words, if we really want to focus on something, pray about it, and see it come to fruition, we need to write it down. Further than that, we need to tell people about it, that will help hold us accountable to it.

I shared with the Out Of The Box Congregation last week that one of my bold prayers, my goals is to still be running when I am 95 years old. I don’t personally know anyone at that age who is still running. I don’t know that many people who are that age. However, if Jesus tarries and I live that long and I hope that I do, I want to still be running. It is what I love to do. It is where I pray, it is where I keep my sanity. It is where I strengthen my health.

Now, one of the things about writing it down and telling others is that we will be aware that we need to do our part in making this happen without forcing an answer to our prayer. Can I just say, if I live to be 95 God will have everything to do with that. I realize that I need to change some of my eating habits. I make jokes that I am proof that a fat boy can run. The truth is, I’m not that much overweight but it does feel better to run 10 miles when I am 25 pounds lighter than I am currently. I make jokes that I love to eat so I run in order to be able to eat what I want. There is some truth to that but the truth is, I need to eat better and I need to make better choices.

I say all that to say that I was encouraged this morning by a story that I read and I am including the link here so that you can read it. This gentleman at 91 years of age just ran a 13.1 Half Marathon in 3:04, WOW that is awesome and in his picture I think he looks 20 years younger.

I hope you enjoy the article and that it encourages you as much as it does me.
