The Only Evangelism That Works: Be An Imagebearer

Book Review: Love Found a Way by Ron Mehl

I believe this book was given to me last year for a gift and I just made the time to read it. Ron Mehl is an outstanding author and he has written one of my favorite books on the teachings of the Ten Commandments, you should check it out on amazon.

Now, this is not a favorite book of mine, the writing is just dated enough that it didn’t speak to me. When I say dated, it doesn’t present anything to me that is today and tie the two together. Remember this is just my take.

I did gain two great insights from the book that are worth sharing. The first is a story he tells about a lady who decorated her Christmas Trees in themes each year. Each year there is a new theme that describes or tells a story about Jesus life. One year there was a bridegroom theme, hanging from the tree were ornaments and other items that represented a wedding. Many times in the bible we are said to be the bride of Christ and our relationship to Christ is referenced as a marriage. Another theme was creation and this one really appealed to me. There were pictures of some of the great wonders of the world along again with ornaments and such that tell the story of creation. I love this idea and would love to use it sometime in the future.

The other insight  gained from the book is this: In Isaiah 9:6 which reads as follows,

6 For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Mighty God can literally be translated “God Hero” I love this. My kids love super heroes and even though I know that God is the greatest hero, I didn’t realize this was a good translation. Here in lies a great way to share the bible with others, know the nuances of the languages in which the scripture has been given to us.
