The Only Evangelism That Works: Be An Imagebearer

2011 Annual Conference 40-Day Devotional Guide: Day 2

Where Winning Matters

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by Him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

March Madness showcased some amazing athletic and coaching skills. Dedication helped each athlete pursue his or her passion – basketball; and great coaching helped the teams reach their potential. Through hard work, commitment, unselfishness, and their coaches, some teams won BIG.

Consider this: What would happen in our churches if we responded to The Great Commission like dedicated athletes who play with their hearts and minds in the game? As Christ followers, our coach is God, and our play book is the Bible. Our success is based on how much we listen to the coach, plus how well we learn and run the plays.

The Apostle Paul reassures us that we are on the Winning Team. So, let’s work hard, listen to our coach, and do what is requested. The best news is that God will not take any of us out of the game, but He does want every believer in the Winning game. God’s winning award has already been won through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. God assures His children that redemption is theirs. Let’s run the race with commitment to our coach and take our team to the next level by working hard this year to win more for Jesus Christ.

Note: Some unexpected teams reach the Final Four because they have great coaching and much more ambition to win. “The last shall be first.”

Prayer: Father God, help us to present ourselves as approved workers leading our churches to do whatever is needed to win more people for Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ holy name. Amen.
