The Only Evangelism That Works: Be An Imagebearer

Call it what you will, I call it Revival and it has started in our Youth

The following is a conversation started by one of our Out of the Box Youth “Beth King” on facebook. I am seeing multiple things like this happen in our youth and it is REVIVAL!

Ronnie

Beth King

so at work today a lady paid for her food with foodstamps but she still owed about $10. I told her I would take care of it & that she didn’t need to worry about it. After I finished paying, the people around me acted as if I had just killed someone. I felt like I was just doing a nice thing, but they seemed to not feel the same. I hated the confused feeling it gave me due to their reactions. Did I do the wrong thing?

Melanie Turner No, you followed your heart that isn’t tainted to help a person in need. Your mixed emotions didn’t come from helping someone pay for their food, but rather from the realization of how hard and heartless people have become. Your unselfishness and love for others is pure, don’t allow other’s to second guess your act of kindness.

Patricia W Tanner Aman Beth, you hold your head held high. That woman saw Christ in you tonight & that’s exactly what he asks of us. You showed her love & compassion just as He did. In this day & age of selfishness & greed, it’s amazing that there are people like you willing to show others God’s love. It is an honor & a priviledge to call you my niece…especially now. You have a heart of an angel. God bless you! Love ya!

YOU are awesome! YOU are the only witness –the only one some people will ever see!WOW! you have witnessed to me as well! love you!

while many people are critical of people who use food stamps, I know the people by name and they are just like us. GOD LOVES all of us the same! Everywhere we go is our MISSION FIELD! thanks so much!

Angela Hiatt Jenkins no!!!!…you showed mercy and erred on the side of grace which is what God expects of us all. Whether the person truly needed your help is not our decision. We all stand before our Father to receive His blessing and judgement. I am proud of you for not being biased and for being willing to step out and show kindness!

  1. Beth,
First of all, there should be more people like you in the world. The Bible tells us if we have abundance we are to share. Like everyone else before me has said, you just did what God would have you do.
I had an encounter like that once too. A girl in front of me in Big Lots was buying diapers for her baby (which she had with her). When she got to the register (she had the smallest bag of diapers they offered) she lacked enough money to pay for them. As she stood there trying to come up with the money to pay for those disapers I felt so bad for her that she couldnt afford necessities. I handed the cashier the money for the diapers and picked up all the change that she had dumped out of her purse to pay for them with. I handed it back to her.
There was only one problem with it, when I got in my car to leave I felt like I had not done enough. I felt like I should have gone back and gotten a bigger bag of diapers or given her some extra cash or something.
Ronnie’s brother Keith used to fuss at me and tell me I am too generous. I guess I am. If I see someone in need I would give them my clothes if they needed them. That is exactly what you have done. You have done nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to feel bad about. Lift your head high and be proud of yourself! God bless you for helping another child of God. You are a sweetheart!

  2. Beth, its never wrong to help someone out no matter what the situation. We should never assume what we believe what other person is going through, and as far as the other people and there reactions, I wouldnt worry about that. You did the right thing.. There are people who will take advantage of the system but to condemn all who are needing help for whatever reason should not be punished for what others may do..I think you are a Blessing and you keep doing what feels right in your heart.

  3. Being the father of a teenage girl, much less two teenage girls can be how should I say it, a bit perplexing at times. However after seeing the post this morning and wiping away my tears,I thought well me & mamma must be doing something right, but then I thought sure we may have offered guidance & love during her life but her real spiritual growth began when she and her siblings started attending youth meetings on Wednesday evenings at F.U.M.C. in Hillsville. There she began to interact with a great group of youth and some “AWESOME” youth leaders.
So without dragging this out too long I would like to say thank you to Ronnie,Jeff,Terri,Greg & Lori for being such great examples as well as spiritual leaders for all of my children.Continue doing what you’re doing because you never know how it may influence the decisions(especially youth)may make one day down the road.
    Love all you guys,
    Gator
